Fire Impact Fee Resolution Details: In 2002, City Council waived Fire Impact Fees for homes and duplexes constructed with fire sprinklers. The incentive was effective and Camas has one of the best percentages in the state of new homes with fire sprinklers. Today over 90% of the new homes are required to install fire sprinklers due to fire codes regarding road width, ingress, egress or fire hydrant proximity. The remaining 10% of these new homes would still have the incentive of waiving Fire Impact Fees, if they install a fire sprinkler system. Approximately 20% of the City's emergency call volume is related to fire, the rest are medical responses. The 90% homes that are required to install fire sprinklers will still have 20% of the fee waived in accordance to state statute. The impact fee is currently $0.20 per square foot, so a house that is required to install fire sprinklers would pay $0.16 per square feet. The City would have collected $290,000 over the past three years if this had been in place. The new fees will go toward new or replacement apparatus or a new station in the future.
