  63. 56 Mayor Pro Tem Sean Saunders – I do want to bring up one thing, because you’re always getting to the Dickinson Band before I am. For everybody who has kids in band, competition season is beginning. I wish all the schools, both in CCISD and DISD, good luck in the competitions. If you’ve never been around some of these competitions and been to the performances, it is truly amazing to watch them do what they do. If you ever get a chance to go out there, Bands of America is not free but Area and Region usually is free. I will invite y’all whenever Dixon does go to Area and Region, I will invite y’all to be there. Scott Higginbotham – No Comments Chad Tressler – I just want to ask staff when they put in the signs in for the expectant mother that it not look like a guy with a big belly grilling. Andy Mann – Guys with big bellies grilling might actually need a parking spot. I think you’re insensitive. Tommy Cones – No Comments Tom Crews -Thank you, Mayor. I’ve got two things. My first thing is I wanted to thank League City Proud for putting on their launch party. It was very well attended, and I thought a good time was had by all. On a different note, I’m interested if there’s anybody out there who is ready to take on a meals program, not for profit. What happened is Saturday the City Manager got an email saying that, I don’t know if you know this, at Hometown Heroes, we come and we feed the seniors. They come get a box lunch. So, we get an email saying that the County has stopped the program. And so, we’re going to have to figure out how to do that. What are we going do, what can we do to bridge the gap on these meals. Out of everybody that comes, I think it’s about 150, something like that, 50 of the people are League City citizens. The other two-thirds are not. I don’t know exactly the state of the economy for these people, but I don’t want anybody to go hungry. I believe that the City is saying that they can cover a couple of months so the program can keep going rather than just be shut off. I would like to see if we can get some caring citizens out there or some the other charities that can actually come in and help so this doesn’t become a League City taxpayer issue. We do have options, we can just charge a lower rate. I want to put it out there to see if we can keep this program going. Thank you. Courtney Chadwell – No Comments
  64. 57 ________________________ DIANA M. STAPP CITY SECRETARY (SEAL) MINUTES APPROVED:
  65. 57 Mayor Long – Actually, I have some good news on that. It wasn’t the County that pulled it. They lost the grant. So, the actual program lost the grant and that’s where the money went. We have been working with the County and developing a plan and we’re almost ready to go. It’s going to be on probably the next agenda. The City has the money in the budget to pick it up for a couple of months until it’s fully implemented. But then, it’s a partnership with the County and faith-based organizations around the county on a rotation to get those meals picked up, each of them taking a month at a time and rotating through, with some grant support from Galveston County and H-GAC. We did get some extra money from H-GAC and found some additional opportunities there. So, the City will be on the hook for a couple of months and then hopefully we’ll have the program up and running and provide those same services without interruption. I think that’s the good news behind it. I also want to congratulate Dickinson ISD on getting their CTE Center put together, and breaking the ground on that. I will continue providing on Dickinson ISD as the chief correspondent to it.
