Applicant Fiona Butler Application Filed 6/22/2026 Staff Recommendation That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a new metal gate in the interior side yard across the existing driveway be approved with findings of fact that the design and colors of the gate are appropriate to the district and that despite the gate falling within the front 50 percent of the home, it is a natural location for the gate and would not have an adverse effect on the district.. The proposed work is, therefore, consistent with preservation criteria Sec.51P-87-111(b)(2), applying the exception in Section 51P-87-111(b)(2)(C)(ii); meets City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; and/or the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Setting (District/Neighborhood). Task Force Recommendation That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install new gate across existing driveway to secure backyard be approved per ordinance. However, Task Force notes that despite the gate being in the front 50% of the home, it is a natural location for the gate, and it does not block any of the home’s architectural features. Task Force also notes that the gate should be horizontal in design and not arched and that the applicant should consider a back-up gate option to reflect this recommendation.
