MOTION, submitted by Councilmembers Cramerding, James, Albi, Johnson, Walsh, Owens, Jeffreys and Nolan, On July 16th, 2026, Public Works employee Jonathan Young was killed in a crash while doing scheduled work on the Norwood Lateral. He had been with the City since 2002 and worked in the Department of Public Services, helping to keep our streets safe and maintained. All of us at the City mourn Jonathan and are praying for his family in this difficult time. Unfortunately, Jonathan Young is not the first Public Works employee who was lost in the line of duty. To honor Jonathan and those that fell before him, WE MOVE the city administration begin a process and identify sites for permanent memorial to all Cincinnati Public Works employees who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This could be similar to that which the city has done for Police and Firefighters. The city should work closely with AFSCME in studying alternatives.
