City Council
Agenda — 1 item
- Public Safety FundsThe State provided funding for Public Safety needs in the 2023 legislative session. These funds are for Fire and Police. Staff seeks Council input on the use of the funds. Attached please find information on the funding available for the City, and how the funds can be used. Chief Warner also provides information on future capital investments. The Police Department has similar ongoing capital needs. The primary concern at this time is the costs associated with a new police station if the decision is made to move to a different location. Other ideas discussed by the Police leadership are a MILO training simulator and/or a Polaris ranger vehicle. There are lots of ideas to explore. Staff encourages Council to use the funds for a one-time purchase instead of offsetting operational costs. Staff aim to get some direction from the Council in regard to:How to invest the funds between the two departments?Should the funds be used exclusively for capital investments?Should the funds be set aside for the short term?
