Motion presented by Councillor Guarino-Sawaya: That the Mayor request the Fire Department, the Department of Public Health, and any appropriate community partners or volunteer organizations to develop a Senior Home Safety Visit Program to provide free home safety assessments for elderly residents. The program should explore offering services such as replacing smoke detector batteries, changing furnace filters, identifying trip hazards, installing grab bars where available, providing emergency contact forms, and offering additional fall-prevention and fire-safety education. The appropriate departments are further requested to report back to the City Council on the feasibility, potential partnerships, funding opportunities, and implementation of such a program.
