MAYOR AND COMMISSIONER REPORTS A. JOB FAIR - COMMISSIONER DAVIS ACTION: (T-1:12 PM) Commissioner Davis relayed that she will be hosting a job fair and exposition at the Convention Center on May 27 showcasing career opportunities for residents at Port Everglades. TREE GIVEWAY - COMMISSIONER DAVIS ACTION: (T-1:14 PM) Commissioner Davis reminded residents about the tree giveaway being held at Miramar Pineland Park on April 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In addition, Commissioner Davis encouraged advance registration at <https://www.broward.org/naturescape/trees>. LITIGATION NAVIGATORS - COMMISSIONER RICH ACTION: (T-1:19 PM) Commissioner Rich announced that the 17th Judicial Circuit family litigation navigator program was launched on March 20, which connects individuals with therapeutic resources, including counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse treatment and more. PANEL DISCUSSION - COMMISSIONER RICH ACTION: (T-1:21 PM) Commissioner Rich reported attending a panel discussion, along with Commissioner Davis and Commissioner Rogers, moderated by County Administrator Monica Cepero, in which the topic of women leaders strengthening connections between residents, businesses and local government to create more empowered communities was discussed. (Refer to minutes for full discussion.) M. SAND BYPASS - COMMISSIONER FURR ACTION: (T-1:24 PM) Commissioner Furr acknowledged receipt of a large volume of emails in connection with the Sand Bypass. In response to Commissioner Furr, County Administrator Monica Cepero advised of conversation with media representatives to ensure awareness of the County’s steadfast attention and focus on environmental issues. JURISDICTIONAL QUESTION - COMMISSIONER FURR ACTION: (T-1:25 PM) Commissioner Furr inquired as to consistency of yardage between boats in various jurisdictions. (Refer to minutes for full discussion.) In response to Commissioner Furr, County Attorney Andrew Meyers advised that the County Attorney’s Office will look into this inquiry. (Refer to minutes for full discussion.) O. CONGRATULATIONS - COMMISSIONER FURR ACTION: (T-1:25 PM) Commissioner Furr congratulated former Dania Beach Mayor Tamara James for having a gymnasium named in honor of her legacy. PORT EVENT - COMMISSIONER GELLER ACTION: (T-1:26 PM) Commissioner Geller expressed approval for the County hosting the job fair and exposition event at Port Everglades and advocated for focus on building trades. In addition, Commissioner Geller reminded everyone that he hosts Sunshined and recorded quarterly building trade meetings, with the next one scheduled for April 2 at 9:00 a.m. in Commission chambers. JOINT COUNCILS - COMMISSIONER GELLER ACTION: (T-1:28 PM) Commissioner Geller advised that the South Florida Regional Planning Council and the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council are holding a joint conference in relation to tech parts of the blue economy and working with the Marine Research Hub. FOREIGN TRADE ZONES - COMMISSIONER ROGERS ACTION: (T-1:29 PM) Commissioner Rogers discussed conversation with staff in relation to connecting the Port with foreign trade zone businesses in locations outside of the Port. INTERNATIONAL EVENTS - COMMISSIONER ROGERS ACTION: (T-1:32 PM) Commissioner Rogers discussed engagement of the broader community in connection with international events. POLICY - COMMISSIONER ROGERS ACTION: (T-1:34 PM) Commissioner Rogers inquired as to policy in relation to the process of district elected officials responding following members of the public speaking to the Board.
