1. Traffic Safety Commission Meeting - June 24, 2024Chair LaRoccaGrant Applications related to Traffic Safety and Pedestrian Infrastructure ImprovementCity Staff applied to the State of California Department of Transportation Active Transportation Program (ATP) Cycle 7. Staff submitted a competitive grant in June 2024. Staff focused on the following: Hi-visibility crosswalks, pedestrian signs, curb extensions, raised crosswalks, and adding Class II & III bike lanes per the adopted Bike Master Plan.Vision ZeroThe Transit Department Completed a First - Last Mile Plan that integrates Vision Zero Fundamentals. The plan was presented at the February City Council meeting for adoption.Vice-Chair BeasWilcox Elementary - Lincoln Avenue between Wilcox Ave. and Donna WayTraffic Engineer, Mike Bagheri, spoke with the school principal and discussed short-term and long-term solutions. Concluded that enforcement is a viable short-term solution. Commissioner Danielle RomeroA Resident inquired about the traffic lights in front of City Hall and to the east on Beverly Blvd. <ul><li>Staff coordinated with the traffic signal maintenance contractor to modify the timing in order to increase the time for pedestrian crossings. Pedestrian clearance time interval was increased to comply with the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommended walking speed at Beverly Blvd. and Elaine Kirchner Intersection. No adjustments were necessary for Beverly Blvd and Maple Ave. intersection. Commissioner Maria KnoxSolar Flashing Lights on Lincoln Ave. and Germain Dr./ 19th Street & Vail Ave. / Cabot Pl. Staff reviewed traffic accident data to determine accident history, police involvement, and other relevant data as a supporting indicator to add flashing stop signs. It was concluded that there have been no accidents reported in the last three (3) years (January 1, 2021 - March 31, 2024). Staff does not recommend installation of flashing stop signs at this time.Reflective Tape for stop signs so they can stand outCoordinating with Public Works staff to purchase reflective tape.Traffic and Safety Commission Meeting - July 29, 2024Chair LaRoccaSchurr Highschool restriping of Lane MarkingsStaff is investigating the lane markings to see if they need to be restriped. Commissioner Danielle RomeroRequest for larger commercial overweight signage to be posted on Vail, between Olympic and WhittierCoordinating with Staff to fabricate and purchase signs.Commissioner Esther Mares Long Stretch of red curb that is located at 4th Street and Mines Avenue next to Rodriquez Park Based on Staff's knowledge and recollection, the red curb was installed to prevent loitering at the park.
