Protecting Youth through Tobacco Retail Licensing Discussion/Direction/Action: Directing the County Administrator to investigate the implementation of a locally administered Tobacco Retail Licensing Program in Pima County - to prevent the sale of commercial tobacco products to young people under the age of 21, who are prohibited from purchasing such products under existing Federal and State law and local City of Tucson ordinance. A draft of such a proposed Tobacco Retail License Program, including draft ordinance language, was completed by the Pima County Health Department originally in 2019 and has since been revisited, with strong advocacy for implementation from the Board of Health, both then and now. The Board of Supervisors at that time chose not to move forward with any ordinance changes or with a locally administered licensing program. While stakeholder feedback was gathered in 2019, stakeholders must be reengaged at this time in order to move forward. Therefore, directing the Administrator, through the Health Department, to begin soliciting input from relevant stakeholders and to bring back to the Board of Supervisors recommendations for implementation of such a program by our second meeting in October or first meeting in November 2026.
