IGA WITH ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR FIBER OPTICS ALONG YUMA ROAD RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT RESOLUTION 14-1613 AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT (JPA 14-0004051-I) WITH THE STATE OF ARIZONA, ACTING BY AND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ESTABLISH RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDING, PURCHASING, INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES OF FIBER OPTIC CONDUIT, CABLE AND EQUIPMENT ALONG YUMA ROAD FROM ESTRELLA PARKWAY AND COTTON LANE AND ALONG COTTON LANE FROM YUMA ROAD TO LILAC STREET/CANYON TRAILS BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF GOODYEAR. PURPOSE: This project will install fiber optic conduit, fiber optic cable and ITS equipment along Yuma Road from Estrella Parkway to Cotton Lane and Cotton Lane from Yuma Road to Lilac Street in the City of Goodyear utilizing Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding. It is included in the Maricopa Association of Governments’ (MAG) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as a project to help mitigate air quality issues within the MAG Region. Once completed City staff will be able to monitor traffic, adjust traffic signal timings and coordinate traffic signals along this corridor from a central location.
