IGA WITH ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR FIBER OPTIC CONDUIT, CABLE AND EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT RESOLUTION 13-1569 AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF ARIZONA, ACTING BY AND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ESTABLISH RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDING, PURCHASING, INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES OF FIBER OPTIC CONDUIT, CABLE AND EQUIPMENT ALONG MCDOWELL ROAD FROM COTTON LANE TO PEBBLECREEK PARKWAY, COTTON LANE INTERSECTIONS WITH VAN BUREN STREET, THE I-10 EASTBOUND FRONTAGE ROAD AND MCDOWELL ROAD AND USE EXISTING STATE CONDUIT ALONG I-10 BETWEEN CITRUS ROAD AND COTTON LANE IN WHICH TO PLACE FIBER IN THE CITY OF GOODYEAR. PURPOSE: This project will install fiber optic conduit, fiber optic cable and ITS equipment along McDowell Road, Cotton Lane and I-10 in the City of Goodyear utilizing Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding. It is included in the Maricopa Association of Governments’ (MAG) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as a project to help mitigate air quality issues within the MAG Region. Once completed City staff will be able to monitor traffic, adjust traffic signal timings and coordinate traffic signals along this corridor from a central location.
