APPROVE AMENDMENT ONE OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR LITCHFIELD ROAD RAILROAD CROSSING RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT RESOLUTION 13-1566 AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AMENDMENT ONE OF AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF ARIZONA FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD CROSSING AT LITCHFIELD ROAD. PURPOSE: Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funding was awarded for improvements to the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crossing at Litchfield Road, just north of MC 85. These improvements include new southbound cantilevered flashing lights over the middle lane and upgrades to the five existing gates with LED signal heads. In addition, as part of this project the existing timber railroad crossing at Litchfield Road was replaced with a precast concrete crossing. The surface work on this project has been completed, and the signal work remains to be completed. The purpose of this amendment to the IGA is to identify funding responsibility due to the cost of the surface improvements exceeding the cost estimate. (Luke Albert, City Traffic Engineer)
