DESIGNATING AN ACTING MAYOR IN THE ABSENCE OF BOTH THE MAYOR AND VICE MAYOR RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the most senior Councilmember to serve as Acting Mayor in instances when both the Mayor and the Vice Mayor are out of town at the same time. PURPOSE: There may be times when both the Mayor and Vice Mayor are out of town at the same time. Goodyear City Code, Section 2-2-3 states ”In the absence or disability of both the Mayor and Vice Mayor, the Council may designate another of its members to serve as Acting Mayor who shall have all the powers, duties and responsibilities of the Mayor during such absence or disability”. Staff is recommending that when both the Mayor and Vice Mayor are out of town at the same time, the most senior Councilmember be acting Mayor. The City Clerk should provide notice to City Council and the City Manager who the Acting Mayor will be pursuant to Goodyear City Code, Section 2-2-3. (Roric Massey, City Attorney)
