RATIFY A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR FOR THE WATERSMART: WATER AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRANTS PROGRAM RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT RESOLUTION 13-1529 RATIFYING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR BUREAU OF RECLAMATION FOR A WATERSMART: WATER AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRANT FOR FY2013 AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THIS APPLICATION. PURPOSE: The WaterSMART program awards grants to states and local government to leverage their money and resources by cost sharing with the Bureau of Reclamation on projects that save water, improve energy efficiency, address environmental issues and facilitate transfers of natural resources to new uses. Through this grant request, the City is proposing to satisfy this objective with the installation of five vadose zone recharge wells at City-owned sites in close proximity to Estrella Parkway and the existing reclaimed water transmission line.
