Authorization for the Mayor, on Behalf of the Assembly, to Sign and Send the Prepared Comments on the Draft Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan (June 2014) Public comments regarding the SATP are due by September 30. The prepared comments center around the need to improve ferry service for the community and advocates for a second mainline ferry. It also voices concerns that ADOT's road to Kake provides only another seasonal option and would not be adequately maintained for safe and uninterrupted travel during the winter. The comments conclude that DOT has fallen short of the Plan goals to provide support for economic vitality, increased modal safety, cost effectiveness and recognition of Southeast’s unique character by shifting transportation resources to the most populous urban regions of the state. The Wrangell Assembly has been provided a copy of the draft comment letter.
