  5. 5 Rule 3. Order of Business a. Invocation Ald. Fenton Replace to read: Alderpersons shall have the option to deliver an Invocation of their choosing, limited to approximately two minutes and not related to any action item on the Council agenda. Alternatively, the Alderperson may choose to observe a moment of silence or reflection, or to deliver the following message: The Invocation will consist of the following message: "We gather together to listen and share, learn and educate, and to be granted wisdom and grace as we move Appleton forward, in the best interest of our community." A moment of silence or reflection may also be used for the Invocation. Additional messages may be added to the rotation of the Invocation with Common Council approval. 24-0425
  6. 6 Rule 3. Order of Business a. Invocation Ald. Hartzheim Replace to read: (1) The Invocation will consist of one of the following messages at the discretion of the member making the Invocation" "We gather together to listen and share, learn and educate, and to be granted wisdom and grace as we move Appleton forward in the best interest of our community." OR "We gather in peace. Even though we have differing opinions, we ask for unity of spirit. We seek help in listening politely as others share their points of view. We seek guidance in unifying to combine our ideas for the best outcome. We ask for assistance as we work as a whole, rather than as individuals trying to promote our own agendas. May we have a spirit of camaraderie in this space and work together on our shared mission to improve the City of Appleton." OR "Let us take a moment to remember all of the religions an non-religious choices represented in this City and on this Council. Let us also recall that when we were called to take part in City government, we were not asked our religious practices because all are welcome here. Please joing me in a moment of reflection and thanks with these words: With our friends beside us, And no person beneath us, With our goals before us, And no task beyond us, With a thirst for knowledge, And a dream of a better Appleton, We are thankful for this opportunity to work together today." Schultz Replace to read: (1) The Invocation will consist of the following message: "We gather together to listen and share, learn and educate, and to be granted wisdom and grace as we move Appleton forward, in the bet interest of our community." (2) Members may also recite an Invocation of their own making, provided it is kept under 2 minutes and is 250 words or less. A moment of silence or reflection may also be used for the Invocation. Additional messages may be added to the rotation of the Invocation with Common Council approval. 24-0439
  8. 8 Rule 32. Continuity of Government Ald. Hartzheim Remove the word secret and replace with open: The Council, by secret open ballot, will elect a Council President and Council Vice President. The remainder of the rule remains unchanged. 24-0436

  10. 10 New Rule 36. Proper Attire Ald. Hartzheim All Council members and members of Committees, Boards, and Commissions shall employ a business casual or better dress code when attending meetings. Overly casual dress such as t-shirts must be avoided. While any meeting of the Council or any Committee, Board or Commission meeting is in session, all attending Council members and members of Committees, Boards, and Commissions shall remove their hats or caps. 24-0437
