  8. 8 Mayor Alemán announced that the City Council would meet in Executive Session pursuant to Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code to consider the appointment, evaluation, employment, reassignment, duties, discipline or dismissal of the City Manager, City Attorney, Municipal Court Judge, City Secretary, members of the various City boards and commissions, and City officers or other City employees; whereupon, the City Council proceeded to meet in the Council Conference Room. After the closed meeting ended at 6:00 p.m., the City Council reconvened in Open Session. No executive action was necessary.

  15. 12 Mayor Alemán announced that the City Council would meet in Executive Session pursuant to Section 551.071 of the Texas Government Code to conduct a private consultation with its attorney related to pending or contemplated litigation; a settlement offer; and issues in which there exists a duty of the City Attorney to the governmental body under the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct of the

  23. 19 Another camp, hosted by the Mesquite Arts Theatre, will focus on dance skills to produce a shortened version of the Wizard of Oz by the end of the week. For camp fees and to sign up, visit www.MesquiteArtsCenter.org. 2. Mr. Green announced that the Mesquite Symphony will present two performances this month. On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Symphony will present “Sinfonia” by Zhou Tian. This award-winning piece of wind ensemble blends various cultures and styles into four different movements. Then on Saturday, March 29, 2025, join the Symphony as it presents “Defying Expectations.” The program will include “Motivation by the Rails from Our Time.,” “The Wizard of Oz concert,” and “Highlights from Wicked.” For showtimes and tickets, visit MesquiteSymphony.org. 3. Ms. Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross encouraged citizens to attend the next Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at City Hall, 757 North Galloway, in Training Rooms A & B. At this gathering, you will learn about emergency preparedness from the Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management. Town Hall Tuesdays are held every other month and provide residents a chance to learn about various City departments. 4. Ms. Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross invited citizens to attend the District 3 Neighborhood Meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Tosch Elementary School, 2424 Larchmont Drive. 5. Mr. Boroughs announced that beginning Thursday, March 6, 2025, live music can be enjoyed on Thursday nights, twice a month, with the Courtyard Concert Series. Attendees can enjoy a performance by a local band “The Elton Johns.” All performances are free and are held at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 North Galloway Avenue, and runs through June. 6. Mr. Boroughs invited citizens to attend a District 4 Neighborhood Meeting on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., at Evans Recreation Center, 1116 Hillcrest Street. 7. Mr. Boroughs shared that his twin brother, Tony, was admitted into the hospital yesterday and asked for everyone to keep him in their prayers. Mr. Smith provided a prayer for Tony’s recovery. 8. Mr. Smith encouraged citizens to attend the Historic Mesquite, Inc., Vintage Car Show on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Opal Lawrence Historical Park, 711 East Kearney Street. A variety of vintage cars will be on display. Register your classic car for $30.00 to be eligible for trophies and prizes or simply attend the show for free. 9. Mr. Murden announced that teens, who will be in Grades 9 – 12 next school year, are invited to apply to be part of the City’s new Youth Council. The Council gives students an opportunity to make a difference, share their voice and shape the future of our community. Also, applications are now open for the Summer Youth Internship Program. This is a paid internship for high school students to work 20 hours per week at a local business, nonprofit organization or with the City of Mesquite. Learn more about both opportunities and apply at www.cityofmesquite.com/YouthServices. 10. Mayor Alemán recognized Mesquite Police Officers who were in attendance at tonight’s meeting. 11. Mayor Alemán stated that during the month of March, the City of Mesquite is celebrating Women’s History Month with events and recognitions. The celebrations include a book club gathering at the Library’s North Branch, programming at the Mesquite Arts Center, and tributes to notable women in Mesquite on the City’s social media accounts, including Councilmember Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/WHM to learn more. 12. Mayor Alemán reminded residents that staff and resources are available to assist unsheltered individuals. That can include connecting people with transportation to shelters, support agencies and helpful family members or friends. Your well-meaning cash and gifts of other resources may continue the cycle of homelessness and could even keep unsheltered individuals from getting the long-term assistance they need.   25. 21 1. Ms. Texas 2025 Jaleesa Patterson thanked the City Councilmembers for their service to the community. 2. David Kirk, Sr., 3336 Silver Creek Drive, expressed concerns regarding drainage issues in front of his house. 3. Bruce Sales, 924 Windbell Circle, expressed concerns regarding competitive pay for the Mesquite Police Department. 4. Clint McNear, 1036 Lufkin Lane, Forney, expressed concerns regarding pay parity.

  27. 22 1. Mr. Casper stated that the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Spring Break Camps for kids in Kindergarten through 6th Grade during the week of March 17, 2025. One of the camps will be held at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, and includes indoor and outdoor activities and a field trip. There will also be an Outdoor Adventure Camp at Rorie-Galloway Day Camp, 3100 Lawson Road, on those same days. Find pricing and details at www.cityofmesquite.com/HolidayCamps. Also, during the week of March 17, 2025, the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 North Galloway Avenue, will offer two Spring Break Camps for kids ages 6 to 16. Instructors from Cara Mia Theatre will lead one of the camps, teaching various hands-on art projects.
