Applicant Fiona Butler Application Filed 6/22/2026 Staff Recommendation That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a new metal gate in the interior side yard across the existing driveway be approved with findings of fact that the design and colors of the gate are appropriate to the district and that despite the gate falling within the front 50 percent of the home, it is a natural location for the gate and would not have an adverse effect on the district.. The proposed work is, therefore, consistent with preservation criteria Sec.51P-87-111(b)(2), applying the exception in Section 51P-87-111(b)(2)(C)(ii); meets City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; and/or the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Setting (District/Neighborhood). Task Force Recommendation That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install new gate across existing driveway to secure backyard be approved per ordinance. However, Task Force notes that despite the gate being in the front 50% of the home, it is a natural location for the gate, and it does not block any of the home’s architectural features. Task Force Recommendation That a Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a new main structure on a vacant lot be approved with conditions. Recommendations: 1. Column bases should be brick if going to the ground 2. The plan with the full-length porch gable is preferred as this allows for the columns to lay out better against the fenestrations of the door and windows 3. A sidewalk should be added to the front which is 5’ wide, beveling at 45 degrees as it approaches the steps, and then as wide as the steps as it advances to the front of the house. 4. Steps should be squared, not rounded. 5. Materials List needs to include beveled lap siding with 6” reveal, JELD-WEN Windows with window survey and labeled on plans. 6. Garage door should not have raised panels. 7. Future applications should be submitted for paint colors and roof/shingle colors. 26-2422A
