  20. 18 1. Mr. Casper reminded residents that it’s time to sign up for Addressing Mesquite Day (AMD). This year, AMD will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026. For 22 years, this annual day of service has changed the lives of thousands of Mesquite homeowners and their families. If you know anyone who needs assistance with exterior house or yard projects, encourage them to complete an AMD request form. Projects could include painting, landscaping, building a ramp or tearing down an old shed. The last day for homeowners to submit applications for assistance is Friday, June 26, 2026. Sign up for AMD volunteers is open now. Learn more about getting assistance and volunteering by visiting www.cityofmesquite.com/AMD. 2. Mr. Green stated that the City of Mesquite and Sharing Life have rolled out the annual Spread the Love campaign. Residents and businesses are encouraged to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly so Mesquite kids can have nutritious meals over the summer when school lunches are not available. Also, due to nut allergies, please consider donating alternative butters such as sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter. Last year, approximately 4,000 pounds of jars of nut and seed butters and jelly were collected, which is enough to make approximately 25,536 sandwiches. Donations can be dropped off at City Hall, Municipal Center or at either Library location. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/SpreadTheLove to learn more. 3. Mr. Hubacek announced that City of Mesquite offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Commercial and residential trash will be collected. Residential recycling will not be collected but commercial recycling will. 4. Mr. Hubacek invited residents to attend the City’s Memorial Day remembrance service to be held on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Mesquite Veterans Memorial, located at 425 South Galloway Avenue. The Mesquite men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces will be honored and we will participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at exactly 3:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive no later than 2:50 p.m. to allow time to park and enter the memorial area. The service will begin at 2:55 p.m. 5. Mr. Smith stated that if you want to have some family fun and support the local economy, make plans to stop by the Downtown Mesquite Farmer’s Market this weekend. At the market, you’ll find locally grown produce, baked goods, bath and body products, food vendors, and much more. The market is held every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through November at Front Street Station located at 100 West Front Street. Visit www.DowntownMesquiteTX.com for more information. 6. Mr. Murden invited citizens to attend the free Courtyard Concert Series at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 North Galloway Avenue, featuring an 80s new wave tribute band, “Le Cure”, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For jazz lovers, the Arts Center presents Jazz Breaks. This series features a different live ensemble outdoors in the courtyard on June 1, June 8 and June 22, 2026. To learn more about individual events, visit www.MesquiteArtsCenter.org. 7. Mayor Alemán announced that the City is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., at City Hall, Training Rooms A&B, 757 North Galloway Avenue. City staff from Animal Services will be seeking input from residents regarding backyard hens and ordinance updates. Come learn about co-existing with wildlife, what to do when you see a stray, TNR program and more. Maybe even adopt a dog! To learn more, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/TownHallTuesdays. 8. Mayor Alemán announced that the annual 1,000-page Reading Challenge will begin Monday, June 1, 2026, and includes a lot of prizes and fun along the way, ending with a pizza party for those who make the 1,000-page goal.
