  2. 2 OPEN GOVERNMENT TRAINING
  3. 3 In accordance with Texas Government Code, Sec. 551.005 and Sec. 551.012, elected and appointed public officials of the city are required to participate in education training sessions regarding: 1. General background of the legal requirements for open meetings, open records and public information; 2. Applicability of the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the Public Information Act (PIA) to governmental bodies; 3. Procedures and requirements regarding quorums, notice, and recordkeeping, and complying with a request for public information; 4. Procedures and requirements for holding an open meeting and for holding a closed meeting under the OMA; and 5. The role of the attorney general under the PIA; and 6. Penalties and other consequences for failure to comply with the Open Meetings and Public Information Acts.
