  52. 43 This is to certify that the above Notice of Meeting was posted on the bulletin board of City Hall of the City of League City, Texas, on or before the 9th day of August, 2024 prior to 12:30 p.m. as well as the City's public internet webpage, www.leaguecitytx.gov and was posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Government Code.
  53. 43 John Baumgartner – Just real quickly, Mr. Mayor, members of the Council, I’d just like to give a brief update on where we are with debris removal. Within the next couple of days, we’ll be complete with the first round of all the vegetative debris pickup. Staff and the contractor, Crowder Gulf, are going to start this week, perhaps as early as tomorrow to start picking up construction debris, so that’s all of your fence material. They anticipate completing the first round or second round of brush by August 26 and then on August 26 they’ll start their final round of picking up the remaining debris and the remaining construction debris. So, my counsel to residents, if you want your brush and your construction debris picked up, make sure you have it out by August 26. They hope to be done by the end of August. I think Crowder Gulf, the League City Public Works employees and AmeriWaste have done a great job. It’s been about a month, I guess five weeks, since the storm was here and I think we’re doing good trying to keep up with the community as they push brush out. Thank you.

  57. 46 Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks – Yes, Mr. Mayor, I’ll be brief. I’m pretty proud to announce that for two years in a row our American Legion League City Baseball Team has easily barreled through the regional tournaments in California and will be going back to the World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. I congratulate them and if anybody wants to watch it’s on ESPN 3 starting Thursday. Andy Mann – I’ll be brief, also. I was just wanting to take the Council’s temperature on us maybe having some sort of public hearing or workshop after all of the debris is collected and invite the whole public to come out and really give us a grade on this. I thought we were excellent in areas, but there seems to be an expectation in the community for something more. Maybe it was just these were loud voices prior to the pickup and now in hindsight maybe there isn’t a demand for some new way of doing this, but I’d like to just throw that out there to Council once we wrap this up. Thank you.
  58. 47 Any invocation that may be offered during the ceremonial portion of the City Council meeting shall be the voluntary offering of a private citizen, to and for the benefit of the Council. The views or beliefs expressed by the invocation speaker have not been previously reviewed or approved by the Council and do not necessarily represent the religious beliefs or views of the Council in part or as a whole. No member of the community is required to attend or participate in the invocation and such decision will have no impact on their right to actively participate in the business of the Council.
  59. 47 Tommy Cones – No Comments Tom Crews – Thank you, Mayor. Two things. The first is that there’s a 5K coming up, it’s called the Savannah’s Memorial 5K. It’s on October 27 and it’s going to be at Hometown Heroes Park. It benefits battered women. Savannah was a woman that was battered to death at a graveyard, I guess several years ago now. If you guys could come and support that, that would be great. If you want to look it up, it’s Savannah’s 5K. The second thing, I really am disappointed that we did not go ahead and finish this Big Wig issue that came up. I feel like we are shirking our duties and it kind of feels cowardly. Thank you. Courtney Chadwell – I’ll be quick. I just wanted to tell all of the teachers and parents and students good luck. School is kicking off. A lot of them today, I think the rest tomorrow. Keep your eye on the school zones out there. Another little PSA, with a lot of these student athletes. Weather is hot out there, man. Parents, make sure your student athletes are really hydrated. That usually starts a couple of days before the activity. Heat stress, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, those are real things that happen more than we like in youth sports. Don’t have a lot of time left, they end at 7:30. Tonight’s Meet the Wildcats night over at Clear Creek High School. If you get a chance when we’re done here, I encourage everybody to go out there and meet your 2024-25 Wildcats over at Clear Creek High School Veterans Stadium. Chad Tressler – I’m going to piggyback off the waterboy there. Not talking about hydration, but it is back to school. Allow yourselves extra time for your commute. The buses are getting used to new routes. The parents are getting used to new drop-offs. We all need a healthy reminder of what that means to us on our drives to work, everywhere else we have to go throughout the day. So, leave yourself some extra time so you don’t create an unsafe situation for other people’s kids or your own. That’s all I have, thank you. Sean Saunders – Yes sir, Mr. Mayor. I would like to piggyback off of them two on the buses. Since DISD does come into League City area, this will be the first year that DISD is actually doing away with bus routes within two miles of a residence, kind of like CCISD has been doing for a while. DISD is now going to start doing it. So, if you live within two miles of a school, you’re not going to get a bus route, which means you’re going to see more kids walking to school. When you haven’t been used to that in years past, get ready for this year and please watch out for these kids. Thirty years of doing what I’ve done, I’ve worked way too many auto-peds with kids involved and it’s just not something you want to have to see or do. Three other topics I’d like to bring up real quick. August 13, the City of League City will be holding a blood drive here at 400 West Walker from 10-4. On August 31, Bay Colony West will be sponsoring a blood drive at 6621 Calder Road at their Community Center, from 10-4 also. Also, on October 5, I’ve had some people reach out to me this year about it, Bay Colony West HOA will also be sponsoring a Hunter’s Education Class. It’s a class required, if I believe it’s, 13 and older I believe it is. If they’re going to hunt, they have to have this class. They have the little card and the certification and all that kind of stuff before they actually go out there and do their first hunting. It will be held there. I believe the classes are limited to 30 or40 children or young adults, or adults. So, please sign up as soon as possible. That’s it, Mr. Mayor. Mayor Long – The final part is, I just wanted to say thanks to the city staff and Jody Hooks and the entire team. A big water main I believe it was, broke at 2094 and Davis Road. It closed down that whole intersection for a couple of days. They got out there and fixed it, it was a pretty big fix, but got out there and fixed it really quick. They made the traffic flow pretty good, even though I could not get into my own neighborhood. I had to drive through the Starbucks parking lot, but other than that it was a really good fix. You guys did it quick, so thank you for that.
