  60. 55 John Baumgartner – Mayor and Council, tonight at your seats we have delivered the 2027 Budget, the 2027 to 2031 CIP. In it is a maybe memo, which is really the memo that says if we get all the money we could we would perhaps fund two or three more items. Obviously, the budget is based on the no new revenue rate, so we try to hold true to that and can’t fit everything that staff has asked for or that we think was worthy of inclusion in the budget. Some key dates to remember the first meeting is July 27, it’s at 6-8 p.m. at the Civic Center in lieu of the Council Chambers. That’s Monday a little more than a week from now. The proposed tax rate will be August 11. The first reading of the budget ordinance is August 25. The second reading of the budget ordinance is proposed for September 8 and adopt the property the tax rate is also proposed for September 8. Obviously, between now and the public meetings Angie and I are both available as well as staff if any council member wants an individual meeting to talk about things that are in the budget. Thank you.

  65. 59 Mayor Pro Tem Sean Saunders – No Comments Chad Tressler – I just want to make a brief reminder to the citizens since it was brought up tonight. Items that are on the Consent agenda are not being passed in secrecy. They are not being passed without the opportunity for public comment. Our agenda is published in advance of the meeting, free for anyone to review and make a comment. Much like items that are in the New Business or Old Business section, there’s often no discussion. Why? Because we’ve already done our homework, we’ve researched what it is. Folks who are interested in it have reached out to us. If we feel the need to change something we’ve already been working on it. If there’s something somebody wants to comment about, we have the public comment at the front of every meeting. We’re not doing anything here with a shortage of transparency. Tommy Cones – Thank you Mayor. I’d like to first of all thank staff, public works, police, fire, city employees, for the July 3 celebration. The legal fireworks celebration that we had at the Sportsplex. Thank you, that was very good. I’d also like to thank staff again, John, Sarah, and all the volunteers that put together the Citizen Appreciation Day on July 4. Both the events seemed to be very crowded when I was there, so we thank all of you for working a holiday and putting it on for our citizens. Thank you. Tom Crews – I just second what Council Member Cones said. The Fourth of July or the Third of July, the fireworks were just fantastic. I don’t know if we used somebody new, but it just seemed to - either it gets better every year or this was just something better. I would just like to thank Adolph for actually cooking the hot dogs. I don’t know what he does it, but whatever he does, those hot dogs are just fantastic and we look forward to them every year. Courtney Chadwell – I just want to take a minute to give a quick shout out to everybody that’s involved in the Lunar Rendezvous. It’s a big event for high school students in the bay area. Had the opportunity to attend their sunset service on Sunday night at Gateway Church. It was really encouraging to see all of these young people involved in community service.

  67. 60 They shared their projects, what they had worked on for the last several months. They did a few of them in League City, a couple at the Crossing, one at Ferguson Elementary. We hear a lot about what kids aren’t doing, so it was really good to see them out there. It was a great reminder of how outstanding some of our young people are. Lunar Rendezvous is a great tradition in this area. Where I come from, Deer Park, we don’t have anything like this, so when I first heard about it, my daughter’s involved in it, I didn’t know what it was. But over the last several months I learned a lot and it’s great for this area. As a matter of fact, we have some legacy Lunar Rendezvous people on the dais right now, Nick Long and his wife. They’ve been developing leaders for a really long time apparently. Anyway, congratulations to all the participants and thank you to the volunteers and the parents that are making all this happen. Scott Higginbotham – No Comments Mayor Long – Hats off to the whole staff and having to work on Fourth of July. That’s above and beyond. You guys did a great job on the third. A great job on the fourth, as well. And then, yeah I was a legacy of the Lunar Rendezvous, and I took my wife to the Lunar Rendezvous, she wasn’t my wife at the time, now she’s my wife and now we’ve been married 20 years. We’re celebrating our 20-year wedding anniversary. It is a great event and I got a wife out of it. It ended up working out for me. I did want to also say, I don’t know the score, our 11U Little League team is playing right now in Pearland for the state championship. We may have already won, I’m not sure, but they are playing right now. So, hats off to those boys. They put in a ton of work. You’ve got to win a heck of a lot of games. I was shocked, this would be the first state championship in League City history in Little League baseball. We’ve played a lot of years, and I coached, and so did Scott and Courtney, some teams that didn’t even get anywhere close to winning the county championship, let alone that. Then, the last part we had somebody up here earlier talking about the crowd and the ordinance that passed. Just for clarity, every ordinance has to be read twice and so it comes in on New Business and then it goes to the Consent Agenda on the second reading. There’s two weeks in between those two reading. Maybe there’s just a misunderstanding on that. It was passed on the second time on consent, but it was definitely new business the first time.
