Presentation of Outstanding Municipal Waste Reduction and Recycling Program award. S.C. Department of Health & Environmental Control’s Office of Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling honored the City of Rock Hill as the Outstanding Municipal Waste Reduction and Recycling Program during 14th annual Recycle Guys Awards Program. This is the second year the City of Rock Hill has been awarded this designation. Each year SCDHEC honors the top recycling programs, projects and people in South Carolina for outstanding achievement in a variety of categories. The 2008 award winners were recognized at a luncheon on March 3, 2009 in Columbia. The City of Rock Hill’s efforts were highly successful due to a variety of programs and educational initiatives. The Clean and Green Board, an 18 member Keep America Beautiful Affiliate, worked to spread information at events such as Earth Day Birthday and National Night Out. Also, the Clean and Green Clowns visit every first grade class in Rock Hill, performing “The Turnaround Clowns,” a program that explores the issue of litter prevention and recycling.
