  1. 1 The Honorable Michelle Wu, Mayor of Boston and the members-elect of the City Council of the City of Boston assembled at Faneuil Hall's Great Hall at 10:13 A.M. City Clerk Alex Geourntas then introduced Reverend Jacques Jean of New England Baptist Church in Attleboro, MA for the Invocation. The National Anthem was sung by Meghan Kavanagh of the Boston City Council Central Staff. City Clerk Alex Geourntas read a communication from the Board of Election Commissioners certifying the election of the members of the City Council. The oath of office was administered to the members-elect of the Boston City Council by Her Honor, Mayor Michelle Wu. City Clerk Alex Geourntas introduced Reverend Willie Bodrick II, of Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury, who delivered the Benediction. City Clerk Alex Geourntas introduced Reginald Reed, Jr. for a saxophone rendition of "God Bless America." The exercises were closed with the playing of the recessional music. The first meeting of the City Council for the year 2024 was held in the Christopher A. Iannella Council Chamber, City Hall, on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 12:12 P.M. Present- all members of the City Council-Senior Member Councilor Breadon presiding. Reverend Laura Everett, of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, delivered the invocation and the meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Councilor Breadon moved to adopt the minutes from the December 13, 2023 meeting. Motion prevailed.

  7. 7 Councilor Breadon offered the following: Order that the City Council adopt the City Council Rules of Municipal Years 2022-2023, except for Rule 36 (Council Committees), as temporary rules for the 2024-2025 municipal years. The rules were suspended; the order was passed. ▶ jump to 10:28
  8. 8 Councilor Durkan moved that the Council proceed to the election of a President. Motion prevailed. Councilor Coletta moved to nominate Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune for President. Council Louijeune accepted the nomination. Councilor Flynn moved to nominate Councilor Julia Mejia for President. Councilor Mejia respectfully declined the nomination. For Councilor Louijeune – Councilors Breadon, Coletta, Durkan, Fernandes Anderson, FitzGerald, Flynn, Louijeune, Mejia, Murphy, Pepén, Santana, Weber, Worrell – 13. Councilor Louijeune, having received 13 votes, was declared elected President for the Municipal Year 2024 through 2025.
