7. 5 a. General Updates AAC Supervisor Norma Gavarrete began by listing some upcoming events including the Saturday at the Cinema February 8th at 1:30pm, a Crimewatch fraud presentation on Wednesday February 19th, and the free UM sports tickets now being available at the AAC. Norma then mentioned that the AAC will be at the Farmer’s Market on March 1st offering the opportunity for the board to attend and assist in advertising the center and the board, with the members volunteering to cover different times. Following discussions, it was decided that staff would speak with AAC Fitness Coordinator Maria Fleites to bring back the AAC flashmob on March 1st. AAC Assistant Supervisor Gregory Walters then discussed a new Voter Registration initiative allowing the use of the media library with the assistance of staff to register to vote or check voter registration status. Board Vice Chairperson Kelley Schild then mentioned that she had spoken with the Voter Outreach department stating that they were open to coming in a leading outreach effort which will be followed up by staff to try and schedule a date. AAC Supervisor Norma Gavarrete then mentioned that the AAC staff have been creating a marketing campaign including the television display and some new flyers asking the board to share any photos of events they can be used for display. Norma then mentioned the Centennial Birthday Luncheon which is currently scheduled for Friday April 11th following the discussions in the previous board meeting. Board member Judith “Jude” Alexander then inquired as to the date of the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, AAC Supervisor Norma Gavarrete stated that that has been moved to June 6th as a kickoff to Summer Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Board member James “Jim” Berlin then inquired about the possibility of having a booth at the Farmer’s Market promoting registering to vote and providing information on voting, Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro stated that there have been discussions with legal concluding that for this years Farmer’s Market this will not be hosting a voter registration booth. However, Director Couceyro stated that there will be criteria established for future years that may allow for booths like this in the future. AAC Supervisor Norma Gavarrete than mentioned that there is an upcoming trip with the AAC Daytrippers traveling to Little Havana visiting the Bay of Pigs Museum using public transportation led by board members Judith “Jude” Alexander. Jude then mentioned that the next trip will take place sometime in March with details to come and stating that members have shared they would be willing to pay a fee for transportation in the hotter summer months. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then stated that there is a bus company that works with YC and that the AAC supervisors will reach out for information to see if it is a possibility. Board member Judith “Jude” Alexander then mentioned the possibility of honoring Letty Ellis and all the other staff that worked to create and establish the Adult Activity Center. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then stated that this I something that is possible suggesting a plaque and stating that although it may not be done by the Centennial Birthday Luncheon there can be a place holder presented in the meantime. A MOTION THAT AS PART OF THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION THERE BE A PLAQUE HONORING THE FOUNDING COMMISSIONERS AND STAFF OF THE CORAL GABLES ADULT ACTIVITY CENTER WAS MADE BY KELLEY SCHILD AND WAS SECONED BY JAMES “JIM” BERLIN. ALL IN FAVOR; PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. b. Special Events Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro began by discussing the Movies Under the Gables Moonlight to take place at Coral Bay Park and the Daddy Daughter Dance at the Country Club which will both be on Friday February 21st. c. Administrative Updates Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro continued giving updates on ongoing projects including the Venetian Pool, the park on Blue Road, and the park located on Bird Road. Director Couceyro then stated that they are finalizing the Phillips Park details so that construction can begin in either April or May with a timeline of about one year for the project to be finished. Director Couceyro then mentioned several smaller projects including redoing the flooring in the gym of the YC and the outdoor fitness equipment at Ingraham Park which is due to be replaced. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then discussed staffing stating that interviews had been conducted for Country Club Director and that there is nothing finalized but they are confident in the selection made. Director Couceyro then mentioned that there was the new Golf and Parks Superintendent who started in his new position, stating that they feel positive about what he may be able to accomplish, however there is a tree on the Granada Golf Course that looks as though it will end up needing to be removed due to decay. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then mentioned the Pickleball court project at the Biltmore Tennis Center, stating that there will be two Tennis courts transitioned into six temporary Pickleball courts until the completion of eight permanent Pickleball courts. Director Couceyro then stated that Pickleball will remain at the YC with no plans on removing it.

13. 10 Out next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 6 at 4 p.m.
14. 10 Board member James “Jim” Berlin then inquired about the terms of the members of the Senior Advisory board and what the term limits are for the members. The Community Recreation Director responded that there is more to consider especially with the pending election stating that some members may change depending on who wins and who they decide to appoint to their position and clarifying that the term limit is 4 terms, however, everyone must be reappointed following every two-year term.
