  5. 4 SUPERVISOR'S REPORT
  6. 5 a. General Updates AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters began by discussing the AAC’s day at the Farmer’s Market with the flash mob and participation of the board members, he then mentioned the changing of the date for the Centennial Birthday Luncheon from April 18th to April 11th due to Good Friday. Board Vice-Chairperson Kelley Schild inquired about what efforts were going to be made to invite hundred-year-old residents to the event. AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters responded that they are still waiting for the information of the voter records from the city clerk’s office and have already spoken with The Palace with plans to reach out to other ALF’s within the city. Boad Vice-Chairperson Kelley Schild then inquired about the plaque mentioned in t previous board meeting, Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro stated that there was some resistance to including the plaque in the event due to lack of a connection to the city’s centennial and presenting the plaque in a separate building. Director Couceyro shared the mockup with the board for their opinions, the board stated that they do not believe that the square footage of the facility should be listed and shared that he will emphasize the board’s enthusiasm for having the plaque completed. AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters then mentioned that the AAC staff had recently relined the Pickleball court in the Great Room in and mentioned that the department’s marketing team has reached out with the opportunity to have a facility specific newsletter that will be sent out to our demographic to help get our information out. Gregory Walters then continued ono to mention the newly acquired popcorn machine and hot dog roller with the hope of having movie and game nights and some food that can be incorporated into the facility and help grow the programming. Board member Judith “Jude” Alexander then inquired about the inclusion of technology assistance that can be provided by the AAC staff, AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters mentioned that GSS Danays Silva was working on creating an iPhone/iPad workshop to help teach our members. After further discussion it was requested that a flyer be created to ensure that members know the AAC staff are available to assist members with any technological assistance they may require. Board Chairperson Celia Suarez then mentioned reaching out to different schools such as UM or FIU to see if students may be willing to come in and teach some sort of technology classes at the AAC as a form of internship. AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters responded that they would reach out to the different schools. AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters then discussed the April 26th Wizard of Oz a Saturday at the Cinema showing and the UM tickets that are available for pickup at the AAC registration office. Gregory then spoke about the upcoming Daytrippers event, mentioning that AAC Manager Norma Gavarrete had reached out to multiple bus companies receiving large quotes but was able to gain access to vans used by both the Police and Fire Departments for the April 25th Norton Art Museum trip. Board Chairperson Celia Suarez then inquired whether members could transport themselves to the museum should all the tickets sell out, which AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters said would not be a problem. b. Special Events c. Administrative Updates Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro began by announcing the promotion of Community Recreation Deputy Director Carolina Vester to Assistant City Manager, leaving both the Community Recreation Assistant Director and Administrative positions to be filled. Director Couceyro then mentioned that the new Country Club Director has officially begun in her new position about two weeks prior. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then stated that this is a very busy season for the department, listing many different upcoming events including the Carnaval on the Mile, MODA Miami and the Farmer’s Market all on the previous weekend and Feria de Sevilla and the Farmer’s Market on the upcoming weekend. Director Couceyro then mentioned the Bike & BBQ coming up in a couple weeks on Sunday, March 16th riding from the Youth Center to Matheson Hammocks and the Saint Patrick’s Day Block Party on the day before. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro then provided some project updates including the Venetian Pool stating that the pool bottom restoration is almost complete along with the kitchen area, then mentioning that ground has been broken on both the Dorothy Thompson Park and Blue Road Park projects which are anticipated to be completed by the end of April. Director Couceyro then mentioned that they plan to break ground on the Phillips Park construction during the Summer. Director Couceyro then continued to discuss the golf shelters, stating that the ongoing debate is whether the shelters need to be large enough for a golf cart to drive underneath the shelters, if there is the need for larger shelters, they will attempt to make as many shelters as possible mimic the original design. Board member Jean Connelly then inquired about the tree on the Granada Golf Course and whether there is a final decision made. Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro stated that they are waiting for additional arborists to come and run tests on the tree to ensure that they will only be removing it if necessary, stating that originally, they were told it was necessary, but they wanted to receive multiple options before making a final decision.
  7. 5 A MOTION TO APPROVE LAST MEETINGS MINUTES WAS MADE BY JEAN CONNELLY AND WAS SECONDED BY JAMES “JIM” BERLIN. ALL IN FAVOR; PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.

  13. 10 Community Recreation Director Fred Couceyro stated that there was an email sent recently from the city clerk’s office stating that May 31st, 2025, is the official end of term date. AAC Supervisor Gregory Walters then proceeded to read through the list of all the current terms for the Senior Advisory Board members, reminding the board that they are two-year terms with a four-term limit.
