4. 4 Item 1. Approval of May 14, 2025, Meeting Minutes Approved on Consent Agenda
5. 4 Public Comment There was no public comment.
6. 5 Item 2. Block by Block, Sustainability, & Mobility Updates a. Asst. Director Anderson updated the PAB with May 2025 activities. Block by Block continues to perform exceptionally well, with numerous emails received praising their efforts in supporting local businesses throughout the business district. The team is currently addressing a minor issue involving trash overflow from the bins of a newly opened restaurant. Block by Block is handling the matter appropriately, and their overall service remains commendable. b. During the most recent City Commission meeting, Mayor Lago directed the Sustainability team to investigate litter accumulation in the downtown medians. In response, the Sustainability team will prioritize these areas during the upcoming quarterly Downtown Community Cleanups. c. A third trolley route is being proposed to enhance public transit access. Assistant Director Anderson is working to secure a Smart Public Transit Development grant from FDOT, which would provide matching funds covering up to 50 percent of the cost for a new southern route. The proposed route would run from Douglas Station, travel south along Ponce de Leon Boulevard past the University of Miami, and continue to Red Road. This route would improve connectivity, enabling riders to travel from the Metrorail to UM and provide easier access for the surrounding communities to reach downtown Coral Gables.
7. 6 Item 3. Striping Lines Update a. Director Beltran advised that the striping of lines is unable to be done by Public Works as they do not have the materials for the job. We are now coordinating with Public Works to use a contractor to do the striping of the east parking lot of Salvador Park and right-of-way. b. Director Beltran asked the PAB to let her know if they see other faded lines that need to be painted. Also, if there are any other troubled areas that we need to be aware of.
8. 7 Item 4. Residential Parking Discount Program Update a. Director Beltran advised the PAB that there are over a thousand residents registered for the discount program and usage is growing. The Commission is looking into a resolution to continue the program as it ends on July 6; this will be on the next Commission meeting.
9. 8 Item 5. ParkMobile & Credit Card Fee Updates a. Director Beltran advised that ParkMobile is creating our signage and soon we will be able to use the app for the discount program. As with PayByPhone, there will be a $.25 credit card charge, provide a 25 percent discount to residents and the $0.35 transaction fee will be waived.
10. 9 Item 6. Board Members Loyalty Oath and Financial Disclosure Filing Update a. Mrs. Piedra addressed the Board members regarding the Board member oath that must be submitted as soon as possible. Board approvals are almost all done for each member.
11. 10 Item 7. Loading Zones & Reserved Parking Spaces Updates a. Director Beltran advised that the city has begun using technology for scheduling loading times with specific parking spaces. There will be signs added to the spaces to have a ‘No Parking from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.’ (example time).
12. 11 Item 8. Land Purchase Update a. There was a large conversation regarding the price of the land, it is being sold for $8.1 million. The Board members and residents do have the ability to discuss with the Commissioners to make suggestions for the usage of the land.
13. 12 Item 9. EV Charge Station Contract a. Director Beltran stated that the city has bought most of the EV charging stations throughout the city, but now that they are nearing their life expectancy, the approval to begin planning with Blink to lease the charging stations instead of purchasing them. This will greatly reduce costs such as the purchase of the machines, electricity, and maintenance.
14. 13 Item 10. Open Discussion a. Salvador Park needs more parking spaces. b. Board member Valdes is worried about the school traffic at the Riveria School as his daughter has begun learning how to drive.
