SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation Department Updates REPORT IN BRIEF Director Jensen will provide department updates to the Commission. Junior Warriors report indicated the percentages of the program on how well they did for the 2022 season for about 300 children in the program. Which he gave us information on the ethnic breakdown of the community, but also gave us details on how confident the kids felt after the program. Which we calculated 86% said yes, 3%did not and 11% did not agreed or disagree. Jensen also included a parent report card to see if the parents would sign up for this program again, a 96% said they would return. Movies in the Park were promoted by social media and approved to be shared in schools. Movies in the Park are shown twice a month, in different parks. Snacks, games and activities occur before the showing. We encouraged a survey for feed back on MIP, but instead of payment they would give them a ticket for a free Kona Ice. June 23rd, we showed "Angel's In The Out Field" and had about 150-200 people at the showing. The Wilderness Summer Camp, this years theme is into the wilderness includes the zoo and other special guess to discuss wild life, ecosystems, and parks in out region like Yosemite National Park. It runs from June-July with limited spaces of about 40 kids per week and lunch is provided by the Merced City School District. Pickle Ball started May 16th,2023 and is continuing through July 27th. Open every Tuesday nights for ages 10 and up, and Thursday's for adults at the McCombs Gym from 6:30PM-9:00PM. In the future they do want to implement leisure classes to further pickle ball as an activity for everyone. Yoga in park with Gina Nardone is a free activity for everyone. Held Sundays at the Bear Creek Park Strip starting at 10:30AM-11:30AM. Volleyball Clinic are held at the McCombs Gym every Wednesday. Participants 5th - 8th grade will have the opportunity to learn basic volleyball skills and drills. Starting July they will be including more advance portions for 9th graders. In July Parks and Community Services will be opening a Request For Interested applicants to apply for programming at McNamara Youth Center. Programming will be specific to focusing on engaging the surrounding community through services that support youth and their families.
