SUBJECT: Authorization to Accept $40,000 in Grant Funds from the California Office of Traffic Safety from their Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program to Conduct Walking School Buses, Walking Field Trips, Helmet Usage Surveys, Bicycle Rodeos, Community Bike Rides, Bicycle Helmet Inspections, Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Pop Up Events, and Safe Routes to School, Along with Funds to Purchase Crossing Guard Safety Kits, Bicycle Helmets, and Other Equipment and Supplies for Rodeos and Safety Events REPORT IN BRIEF Considers accepting grant funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety offered to the Merced Police Department in the amount of $40,000 from their Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program to Conduct Walking School Buses, Walking Field Trips, Helmet Usage Surveys, Bicycle Rodeos, Community Bike Rides, Bicycle Helmet Inspections, Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Pop Up Events, and Safe Routes to School, along with funds to purchase Crossing Guard Safety Kits, Bicycle Helmets, and other equipment and supplies for education and rodeos and safety events. RECOMMENDATION City Council - Adopt a motion: A. Accepting the grant; and, B. Approving the use of pooled cash until reimbursement from the grant is received; and, C. Authorizing the City Manager or Deputy City Manager to execute the necessary documents.
