Michael Colantuano, of Colantuano, Highsmith and Whatley, provided a PowerPoint presentation regarding Public Meeting Management and Local Official Training. Specific topics of discussion included goals of meeting management, public participation requirements, types of meetings - formal and informal, how much formality is needed, audience problems, staff problems, agenda problems, chair problems, Council Member problems, organizing the agenda, adding items to the agenda, preparation, things to avoid, manage public input, dealing with disruptive people, dealing with disruption, discouraging repetition, staff reports, managing conflict, avoid attacking staff, Council's relationship with staff, relationship with City Manager, treating each other with respect, consequences of incivility, written procedures, decorum rules within the Lodi Municipal Code, and knowing limitations.
