1. 2 The Board may adjourn to Closed Session before or after the public meeting under the authority of the Brown Act (including but not limited to Gov. Code Sections 11126(a)1; 54954.4; 54956.6; 54956.8; 54956.9; 54957; and 54957.6; as well as CA Ed Code 35146). Under Govt. Code Section 54954.3), members of the public may comment on any Closed Session item on the agenda. Comments will be limited to 2 minutes per speaker.
2. 3 Depending upon completion of Closed Session items, the Board of Education intends to reconvene to Open Session at 7:00 p.m., reserving the right to return to Closed Session at any time.
3. 5 The mission of Albany Unified School District is to provide excellent public education that empowers all to achieve their fullest potential as productive citizens. AUSD is committed to creating comprehensive learning opportunities in a safe, supportive and collaborative environment, addressing the individual needs of each student.
4. 1 Maintain a focus on what is best for our students.
5. 2 Ensure a safe environment for all views to be expressed, treating each other, staff, and the public respectfully.
6. 3 Endeavor to find common solutions to issues through collaboration without sacrificing one's beliefs in what is best for students.
7. 4 Make a commitment to effective deliberation, each one listening with an open mind while others are allowed to express their own points of view even if one disagrees.
8. 9 Spotlight on Albany Middle School (15 mins)
9. 10 The Board recognizes and promotes Awareness Months, Appreciation Weeks, and National Days with resolutions that encourage the District to observe these occasions with appropriate events and instructional activities.
10. 11 The Student Board Members will provide reports to the Board on recent and upcoming events and other items of interest related to students.
11. 12 The Presiding Officer will invite the public to speak on items that are not on the agenda. The Brown Act limits the Board's ability to discuss or act on items which are not on the agenda; therefore, such items may be referred to staff for comment or for consideration on a future agenda. Board practice limits each speaker to no more than two (2) minutes, and speakers will not be allowed to cede their time to others. If there are many speakers, this time may be decreased to allow more to be heard.

13. 14 Appointment Of Interim Superintendent, Dr. Donald Evans, As Secretary To The Board Of Education
14. 15 The Superintendent and Board Members will provide reports on recent committee meetings, events, and other items of interest related to the school district.
15. 16 Board Members and Superintendent note upcoming agenda items and items to be placed on a future agenda.
16. 17 The Board believes that late night meetings deter public participation, can affect the Board's decision-making ability, and can be a burden to staff. Regular Board meetings shall be adjourned by 10:00 p.m. unless extended to a specific time determined by a majority of the Board.
